About us

The area managed by Scarborough Borough Council - including that land within the North York Morrs National Park Authority is managed by CPRE North Yorkshire

Prior to Government intervention Redcar & Cleveland was an integral area of North Yorkshire. Historically we were part of the ancient county of Cleveland.

CPRE Harrogate broadly covers the administrative boundary of Harrogate Borough Council. It includes the spa town of Harrogate, urban centres of Knaresborough and Ripon, as well as bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

York & Selby District  responds to planning applications within Selby District Council and the City of York Council areas, thus giving the York and Selby District the monumental task of responding to the emerging local plans of the two large areas.

Ryedale is a very rural district which borders both the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Wolds, so has an interesting and wide ranging amount of issues to deal with.

Issues within the planning area of Richmondshire District Council formerly managed by Swaledale and Wensleydale Districts are now managed by the Branch.

Our county branch, which is the charitable body, is divided in to district groups which should reflect the local authorities of that area.

Some districts may have two authorities to monitor if they are based partially within a National Park or between two districts and have merged together. For example, Coastal has to respond to applications within the North York Moors National Park Authority and applications within the Scarborough Borough Council Authority area.

Hambleton District CPRE group respond to threats within the Hambleton District Council and the North York Moors National Park boundaries

We believe a beautiful, thriving countryside is important for everyone, no matter where they live.
